Gender violence is an umbrella term used for any harm that is perpetrated against a person’s will and that has a negative impact on the physical or psychological health, development, and identity of the person.

Gender violence can be expressed in many forms including Sexual, physical, emotional & psychological, socio-economic and harmful traditional practices like female genital mutilations and forced marriages’.

At Macheo, Mother to Child Program and Teenage Mother Program encourages active linkage with economic empowerment, seminars/workshops and links to education as a means to systematically addressing norms that can perpetuate violence with young people and to assist in the empowerment of women/girls by supporting equal access to education and economic opportunities. We also minimize the vulnerability of female orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) to gender-based violence with appropriate education and economic empowerment activities for OVCs and caregivers with activities such as counselling for survivors of domestic violence, medical treatment, formation of support groups, and seminars/advocacy campaings to address issues that arise from domestic violence.
