Every child has the right to a healthy start in life, which encompasses the right to survival, health and nutrition. The early years of a child’s life provide the foundation for future heath, development and well-being. However, many children in the rural and urban slums are unable to reach their full potential. This is a result of inadequate nutrition, lack of access to quality health services & information, poor sanitation, unsafe water and unhygienic practices.
At Macheo we ensure that mothers have access to quality health services and resources that are essential for the health and well-being of their newborn infants. We ensure that all children realise their right to a healthy start in life by enabling mothers to go for prenatal care, as well as safe delivery and effective antenatal care services.
Through Assisting mother in child care, parents and communities are engaged to draw upon their collective knowledge and experience, to recognise and understand the importance of maintaining health. Mothers are particularly integral to identifying the seasonal and external factors which impact on optimal nutrition of children in their first 1,000 days, from conception through until 23 months after birth; when social, emotional, intellectual and physical development are most in need of a diverse, nutrient-rich diet for expecting mother and child.
On behalf of our beneficiaries, we are grateful to our partners for their support.
