At the end of 2005, we built a children’s home in Kenya in order to do something about the enormous number of orphans that needed taking care of. We also help disadvantaged children and their families in the surrounding slums through our Primary School, Secondary Education, Health and Family Empowerment programs. During the remainder of the time, we work hard in order to become less financially dependent on sponsors and donors in time.
The Children’s Home
At the end of 2005, we built a children’s home in Kenya in order to do something about the enormous number of orphans that needed taking care of. We have been developing ever since and 56 children have found a new home..
Primary School program
We ensure that more than 14.000 school-children in the slums of Thika receive a meal every day and have access to psychological care. Accordingly, we are seeing results improve..
Secondary School Program
Making it possible for young children and especially girls to attend secondary school has many lasting effects. Girls entering puberty are likely to become pregnant at an early age when not in school.
This program is aimed at improving the health of needy children in Kiandutu slum. The health program is carried out in close cooperation with stichting KOP (Kiandutu Outreach Project) from the Netherlands.
Sanitary Pads Project
This project is designed to decrease absenteeism of adolescent girls during their menstruation. The project runs on 81 primary schools in Thika. At this moment nearly 5,000 girls are provided with sanitary pads every month. The project also trains approximately 12,000 girls and boys on various subjects which include menstruation, hygiene, self-esteem, etc.
Family Empowerment program
This program aims at improving the situation for a child by improving the family situation. We assist parents to become better parents and support them to improve their economic situation..
Income Generating Projects
Since its establishment, we’ve set up income generating projects to provide financial stability. This has been challenging, but we’re well on the way. It also shows the children that our earnings are the result of our own hard work and not only as the result of donations from the West.
